Rose Valley and Underground City Tour
Small group Cappadocia tour: Visits Rose Valley, Çavuşin old village and Kaymakli Underground City
Our tour starts at 09:30 by pick-up from your Cappadocia hotel. After a 5 minute drive we will start our leisurely hike through the beautiful Rose Valley which will take slightly more than one hour (3 km).
We will see hoodoos locally called fairy-chimneys, smallholdings, pigeon houses and some cave chapels carved out of the rock and camouflaged in the landscape. We will also appreciate the wonderful range of rose-colored hues in the valley, changing in intensity depending on the season, time of day and weather conditions. Your guide will give information about the history and the unique rock formations of Cappadocia during our walk.
Ah the end of the hike, we will stop off at the picturesque old Cavusin cave village. You will see the old Greek houses in Çavuşin village, abandoned by their Christian occupants in 1924 during the Greek/Turkish population exchange set in motion after the signing of the Lausanne treaty.
In the afternoon, we tour the Kaymaklı underground city, the first and most popular underground city in Cappadocia. This complex carved underground was used for hundreds of years by locals to hide from Romans, Persians and Maurs. Whole populations descended underground and hid for months with their livestock and food stores.
